During a six-week collaborative residency that took place at Gladstone Hotel (Toronto) and HubM3 (University of Salford, Greater Manchester) in 2010, Lois Klassen and Mary Oliver used research-creation methods to ask, does art produce a condition of offit, in Salford vernacular (“not on it”, out of sorts, “not quite right”) and how does this condition reflect on the process of urban regeneration. In 2011, MediaCityUk, a £650 million development including BBC North, was scheduled to open in Salford. Like the urban development and surveillance associated with the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver and the 2010 G20 Summit (Toronto), this civic investment introduced unprecedented change to the experience of cultural activities and public spaces.
